01

The short answer

Quick answer

RECOFREEZE PG is Recochem's inhibited propylene glycol heat-transfer fluid, sold as a concentrate (92% glycol by weight minimum) and pre-diluted, with freeze protection published by percent glycol by volume. RECOFREEZE AL 50/50 is a premixed, pH-neutral propylene glycol for aluminum boilers and heat exchangers, with an additive package Recochem states is free of nitrite. Our inhibited propylene glycol premixes are named by percent by weight and contain nitrite, so match on freeze point, not on the number in the name, and treat ours as an alternative, not the same fluid.

Questions

Which of your products replaces RECOFREEZE AL 50/50?

On freeze point, our Inhibited Propylene Glycol 50/50 with OAT Inhibitor, at about -28 °F against AL 50/50's -24 °F. The chemistry is different: Recochem states AL 50/50 is nitrite-free and pH neutral for aluminum boilers, and ours contains nitrite. Check your boiler or heat exchanger maker's fluid specification before switching.

Is your propylene glycol nitrite-free?

No. Our inhibited propylene glycol contains nitrite. We do not sell a nitrite-free propylene glycol. If your equipment, cold plate or CDU loop calls for a nitrite-free fluid, check the maker's fluid specification before using ours.

Can I top up a RECOFREEZE system with your fluid?

No. Do not mix inhibitor chemistries. Drain, flush with deionized water and refill.

Why don't the percentages line up?

Recochem's freeze table is percent glycol by volume. Our premixes are percent by weight. Pick the strength from your coldest fluid temperature, not from the number in the name.

Can I use your propylene glycol in a food plant?

No. Ours is not food grade and is not for food contact or potable-water protection.

Can you add dye?

Yes. Our fluid ships undyed; green or purple leak-detection dye can be pre-mixed on request.
