8 questions

What chemical grades do you offer?
ACS Grade — highest purity, meets American Chemical Society standards. Reagent Grade — high purity for lab analysis. USP/NF Grade — pharmaceutical and food-grade purity. Lab Grade — suitable for educational and general lab use. Technical Grade — industrial applications where ultra-high purity isn’t required. Each product page lists its available grades.
How should I store my chemicals?
Storage requirements vary by product. General guidelines: store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Keep containers tightly sealed. Never store incompatible chemicals together (e.g., acids and bases). Refer to the product’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Section 7 for specific storage requirements.
What is the shelf life of your chemicals?
Shelf life varies by product. Most inorganic chemicals (acids, bases, salts) last 2–5 years when stored properly. Organic solvents typically last 1–3 years. Every COA includes an expiration or retest date. Contact us for specific shelf life data.
How do I safely dispose of chemicals?
Disposal requirements vary by chemical and jurisdiction. Refer to Section 13 of the product’s SDS for disposal guidance. Contact your local hazardous waste facility or call 311 for local regulations. Never pour chemicals down the drain unless the SDS specifically permits it.
What does the CAS number mean?
A CAS (Chemical Abstracts Service) number is a unique numerical identifier for every chemical substance. It’s the universal way to identify a specific chemical regardless of its common name. Our SDS Library is searchable by CAS number.
Do you sell food-grade chemicals?
Yes. Products marked USP or FG (Food Grade) meet purity standards for food processing applications. Always verify the grade on the product page matches your application requirements.
What pack sizes are available?
Most products are available in: quart (32 oz), gallon, 2.5-gallon, 5-gallon pail, 15-gallon drum, 55-gallon drum, and 275-gallon tote. Available sizes vary by product and are listed on each product page.
My container arrived bloated — is the product OK?
Yes. Container bloating can occur during transit due to temperature or pressure changes. This does not affect product quality. Wear appropriate PPE, slowly release pressure by loosening the cap, and contact us if you have concerns.

What makes a chemical “hazmat”?
The U.S. Department of Transportation classifies materials as hazmat based on their physical and chemical properties — flammability, corrosivity, toxicity, oxidizing potential, etc. Hazmat chemicals require special packaging, labeling, and documentation for shipping under 49 CFR.
Can you ship all hazmat classes?
We ship most hazmat classes including flammable liquids (Class 3), corrosives (Class 8), oxidizers (Class 5.1), and toxic substances (Class 6.1). Some extremely dangerous goods (Class 1 explosives, Class 7 radioactive) are not in our catalog.
What is an SDS and why do I need one?
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is a standardized document (GHS/OSHA HazCom 2012) containing 16 sections covering hazard identification, first aid, handling, storage, exposure controls, and disposal. Employers are legally required to have SDS accessible for every hazardous chemical in the workplace. Browse our SDS Library.
What is the difference between SDS and TDS?
An SDS (Safety Data Sheet) covers safety, hazards, and regulatory information. A TDS (Technical Data Sheet) covers product specifications, physical properties, and application data. You typically need both — SDS for compliance, TDS for technical use.
What do GHS hazard symbols mean?
GHS (Globally Harmonized System) uses standardized pictograms: flame (flammable), skull and crossbones (acute toxicity), corrosion (corrosive), exclamation mark (irritant/harmful), health hazard (chronic health effects), environment (aquatic toxicity), oxidizer, gas cylinder (compressed gas), and exploding bomb (explosive). Each product SDS explains the applicable symbols.
Do I need a permit to buy chemicals?
Most chemicals do not require a permit. Some exceptions: specially denatured alcohol/ethanol may require a TTB (Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau) permit for quantities over 5 gallons per calendar year to a single address. Certain restricted chemicals may require end-use verification. Product pages note any restrictions.
What is a Certificate of Analysis (COA) vs a Certificate of Conformance (COC)?
A COA contains actual test results for a specific lot (assay, trace metals, moisture, etc.). A COC is a statement that the product meets published specifications without showing individual test data. COAs provide more detailed quality assurance.
