The short answer

Quick answer

Cryo-Tek is Oatey's Hercules line of propylene glycol antifreeze for closed-loop hydronic systems. The -100 in Cryo-Tek -100 is its burst protection, not its freeze point: Oatey rates it to freeze at -70 °F and protect pipes from bursting down to -100 °F. Compare freeze point to freeze point. Our coldest stock propylene glycol freezes at about -60 °F, so it is about 10 °F warmer than Cryo-Tek -100. For Cryo-Tek -100 diluted with water and for Cryo-Tek Original, our premixes freeze as cold or colder. Our inhibitor is different from Hercules Triple Protection, so this is an alternative, not the same fluid.

Questions

What does the -100 in Cryo-Tek -100 mean?

It is the burst protection in °F, not the freeze point and not a concentration. Oatey rates Cryo-Tek -100 to start freezing at -70 °F and to protect pipes from bursting down to -100 °F. Freeze point is where ice crystals start to form and the fluid stops pumping well; burst point is where the slush can split a pipe. Compare freeze point to freeze point and burst point to burst point, never one against the other.

Which of your products matches Cryo-Tek -100?

None of our stock products freezes as cold. Our coldest, Propylene Glycol 60% Inhibited, freezes at about -60 °F typical (-58 °F max), about 10 °F warmer than Cryo-Tek -100. We do not publish burst ratings; we design to freeze point. If your system only needs the freeze point of a diluted Cryo-Tek mix, the table above shows a premix for each one.

Which of your products matches Cryo-Tek Original?

Our Inhibited Propylene Glycol 50/50 with OAT Inhibitor, at about -28 °F typical against Cryo-Tek Original's -22 °F freeze point.

Can I top up a Cryo-Tek system with your fluid?

No. Do not mix inhibitor chemistries. Drain, flush with deionized water and refill.

Can I use your propylene glycol in a food plant or potable-water system?

No. Cryo-Tek FG is sold as food grade; ours is not food grade and is not for food contact or potable water.

Is your propylene glycol nitrite-free?

No. Our inhibited propylene glycol contains a nitrite-containing hybrid organic-acid inhibitor package.

Can you add dye?

Yes. Our fluid ships undyed; green or purple leak-detection dye can be pre-mixed on request.
