01

The short answer

Quick answer

PROTOCOL NT is an industrial-grade, low-toxicity inhibited propylene glycol heat-transfer fluid, sold as a concentrate (NT-100) and as premixes named by percent glycol by volume: a 40% by volume blend freezes at about -6 °F. Our inhibited propylene glycol premixes are named by percent by weight, so match on freeze point, not on the number in the name. Our inhibitor chemistry is different and ours is not food grade, so this is an alternative, not the same fluid.

Questions

Which of your products matches PROTOCOL NT-50?

Our Inhibited Propylene Glycol 50/50 with OAT Inhibitor: -28 °F typical, matching the freeze point of NT-50. Its guaranteed maximum is -27 °F, so if your design must hold -28 °F as a limit, ask for a slightly stronger blend to order.

Does 40% mean the same thing on both labels?

Not quite. PROTOCOL NT strengths are percent glycol by volume and ours are percent by weight. At the strengths in the table our typical freeze points line up with NT's published figures, but our guaranteed maximums run 1 to 2 °F warmer. Pick the strength from your coldest fluid temperature, not from the number in the name.

PROTOCOL NT is sold as non-toxic. Is yours?

Ours is not food grade and is not for food contact or potable-water protection. Use it only in closed loops where a food-grade fluid is not required.

Can I top up a PROTOCOL NT system with your fluid?

No. Do not mix inhibitor chemistries. Drain, flush with deionized water and refill.

Can you add dye?

Yes. Our fluid ships undyed; green or purple leak-detection dye can be pre-mixed on request. PROTOCOL NT is pink; we do not match that color.
