01

The short answer

Quick answer

INTERCOOL is Interstate Chemical's line of inhibited glycol heat-transfer fluids: NFE and OP-100 are ethylene glycol, NFP and P-300 are propylene glycol, P-323 and PG Freeze are food-grade propylene glycol, and DC-300 25% is a propylene glycol fluid for direct-to-chip cooling. Interstate's premixes are named by percent glycol by volume: P-300 40% freezes at about -6 °F. Our premixes are named by percent by weight, so match on freeze point, not on the number in the name. Our inhibitor chemistry is different and our propylene glycol is not food grade, so this is an alternative, not the same fluid.

Questions

Which of your products matches INTERCOOL P-300 40%?

Our Inhibited Propylene Glycol 40/60 with OAT Inhibitor: -6 °F typical, matching the freeze point of P-300 40%. Its guaranteed maximum is -5 °F, so if your design must hold -6 °F as a limit, step up to our 50/50 or ask for a blend to order.

Why doesn't 40% mean the same thing on both labels?

INTERCOOL premixes are percent glycol by volume. Ours are percent by weight, and 40% propylene glycol by volume is about 41% by weight, so a same-numbered premix of ours can run about 1 °F warmer. Pick the strength from your coldest fluid temperature, not from the number in the name.

Do you have something for INTERCOOL DC-300 25% in a direct-to-chip loop?

Our Inhibited Propylene Glycol 25/75 freezes at about 15 °F typical, about 1 °F warmer than DC-300 25%'s 14 °F. For 14 °F or colder, use our 30/70 (9 °F) or we blend to order. DC-300 is dyed fluorescent yellow-green; ours ships undyed, and green dye can be added. Check the fluid against your cold-plate maker's specification first.

Can I use your propylene glycol in place of INTERCOOL P-323 in a food plant?

No. P-323 and PG Freeze are NSF HT1 registered for incidental food contact; ours is not food grade and is not for food contact or potable-water protection.

Can I top up an INTERCOOL system with your fluid?

No. Do not mix inhibitor chemistries. Drain, flush with deionized water and refill.

Can you add dye?

Yes. Our fluid ships undyed; green or purple leak-detection dye can be pre-mixed on request.
