The short answer

Quick answer

DOWTHERM SR-1 is Dow's inhibited ethylene glycol concentrate (about 95.5% EG) with a phosphate-based, silicate-free inhibitor, dyed for leak detection. Our 100% Ethylene Glycol Inhibited is an ethylene glycol concentrate for the same chiller, HVAC and process loops, and we also sell it ready-mixed at 30% to 50%. Our inhibitor is a nitrite-containing hybrid organic-acid package and the fluid is undyed, so it is an alternative, not an identical fluid.

Questions

Is there a DOWTHERM SR-1 equivalent?

Several suppliers sell inhibited ethylene glycol concentrates for the same loops. Ours is an alternative with a different inhibitor package (nitrite-containing hybrid organic acid, undyed), not an identical fluid, so check it against your system's fluid specification.

Can I mix your ethylene glycol with DOWTHERM SR-1 already in the loop?

No. Do not mix inhibitor chemistries. Drain, flush with deionized water and refill.

Why buy a premix instead of concentrate?

A premix arrives at the right strength, blended with deionized water, so there is no risk of mixing with tap water or getting the ratio wrong on site.

Is it dyed?

No, it is clear and undyed.
