01

The short answer

Quick answer

DOWFROST LC 25 and LC 55 are Dow's pre-diluted propylene glycol coolants for data center technology cooling loops and direct-to-chip liquid cooling. Dow lists LC 25 at 14 °F and LC 55 at -40 °F, but does not state on its product page whether the number in the name is by volume or by weight. Our inhibited propylene glycol premixes are named by percent by weight, so match on freeze point, not on the number in the name. Our inhibitor package contains nitrite and is different from Dow's, so this is an alternative, not the same fluid.

What to order

The products that fit this spec, and what each one is for.

For LC 25 (14 °F)

Inhibited Propylene Glycol 30/70 with OAT Inhibitor

30% propylene glycol by weight, freezing at about 9 °F, which covers LC 25's 14 °F. Our 25/75 premix freezes at about 15 °F, slightly warmer than LC 25.

Freeze point: approx. -13 °C (9 °F) at 30 wt% propylene glycol · Quart to 330-gallon tote · COA with every lot

For LC 55 (-40 °F)

Propylene Glycol 60% Inhibited

60% propylene glycol by weight, freezing at about -60 °F, colder than LC 55's -40 °F. Ask for a blend set to -40 °F if you do not want the extra glycol.

Freeze point: approx. -51 °C (-60 °F) at 60 wt% propylene glycol · Quart to 330-gallon tote · COA with every lot

Concentrate, or blended to order

100% Propylene Glycol Inhibited

96/4 inhibited propylene glycol concentrate for site blending with deionized water, or blended by us to the freeze point you need.

Quart to 330-gallon tote · COA with every lot

Need a different concentration? We blend to the freeze point you specify, in pails, drums and 275- or 330-gallon totes.

Questions

Which of your products matches DOWFROST LC 25?

Our Inhibited Propylene Glycol 30/70 with OAT Inhibitor, at about 9 °F against LC 25's 14 °F. Our 25/75 premix freezes at about 15 °F, which is 1 °F warmer than LC 25, so we point LC 25 users to the 30/70 or a blend made to order.

Is your propylene glycol nitrite-free?

No. Our inhibited propylene glycol contains nitrite. We do not sell a nitrite-free propylene glycol. Check your cold plate, CDU or server maker's fluid specification before using it in a direct-to-chip or CDU loop.

Can I top up a DOWFROST LC system with your fluid?

No. Do not mix inhibitor chemistries. Drain, flush with deionized water and refill.

Why match on freeze point and not on the number in the name?

Dow's product page does not say whether LC 25 means 25% by volume or by weight. Our premixes are percent by weight. Pick the strength from your coldest fluid temperature, not from the number in the name.

Can you add dye?

Yes. Our fluid ships undyed; green or purple leak-detection dye can be pre-mixed on request.
