It is hydrogen chloride gas dissolved in water; the solution sinks and mixes with water and gives off irritating vapor. Wear acid-resistant gloves, splash goggles or a face shield and chemical-resistant clothing and work with ventilation adequate to keep vapor away from the breathing zone. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in corrosion-resistant containers — HDPE is standard; we ship it in HDPE for a reason. Keep it away from bare metals, which it attacks and away from strong bases and oxidizers, which react exothermically. Never add water to concentrated acid when diluting; add acid to water.
