It presents as a clear, colorless to light yellow liquid with the sharp, irritating odor characteristic of hydrochloric acid. Density is 1.075 g/mL for the 15% w/w aqueous solution at 20 °C — noticeably heavier than water, which matters when you are sizing pumps or calculating dose by weight. It is miscible with water in all proportions, so in-line dilution and metered feed are straightforward.
Industrial Applications

pH adjustment in water treatment. Operators feed hydrochloric acid to lower pH and neutralize alkalinity in process water, wastewater, and cooling systems. The 15% strength doses predictably through standard chemical-feed equipment.

Metal cleaning and descaling. The acid dissolves rust (iron oxide) and mineral scale from steel and other metal surfaces ahead of coating, welding, or inspection. At 15%, it works fast on oxide layers while remaining manageable for immersion and spray-wand work.

Chemical synthesis. Hydrochloric acid serves as an acidification and chloride-source reagent in industrial chemical processing, where a pre-diluted working strength saves a preparation step.

Handling & Storage

Treat it accordingly. Wear acid-resistant gloves, splash goggles or a face shield, and chemical-resistant clothing whenever you open a container or transfer product. Work with ventilation — the vapor is irritating to the respiratory tract.
Store it cool and dry in corrosion-resistant containers — HDPE or glass, never bare metal. Keep it away from metals it can attack and from strong bases, which react violently with acids. Keep containers closed when not in use, and segregate acid storage from incompatible materials. If you must dilute further, always add acid to water slowly with stirring, never the reverse.
