Drain Hammer is 93% sulfuric acid (CAS 7664-93-9), Technical grade, sold as a heavy-duty drain cleaner and a working industrial acid. It is a colorless, oily, odorless liquid that dissolves organic blockages, chars organic matter on contact, and releases heat when mixed with water. Plumbing contractors buy it to open dead drains. Water-treatment operators and industrial plants buy the same product for pH control and metal cleaning. This is not a retail crystal or diluted gel product. At 93% concentration it is a Class 8 corrosive (per 49 CFR 172.101) and demands the handling discipline of any concentrated mineral acid. If your crew is not equipped for that, this is the wrong product.
Why This Concentration
93% is the working strength for drain service. Blocked drains packed with grease, hair, paper, and organic sludge need the full dehydrating power of concentrated sulfuric acid; a dilute solution will slow the reaction and leave the blockage in place. The trade-off is reactivity: at this strength the acid generates strong heat on contact with water, attacks metals (H290, per the product's GHS classification), and burns tissue on contact. Choose 93% when the job is clearing blockages or when your process calls for concentrated acid you will meter or dilute on site. For simple pH adjustment, many operators draw from this concentrate and dilute down — always acid into water, never the reverse, and slowly, because the dilution itself is strongly exothermic.
Technical grade is the procurement designation industrial buyers specify for drain service, wastewater pH control, and metal cleaning — workflows where the job needs concentrated acid, not an analytical-grade paper trail. Chemical Profile

This product is the 93% w/w solution: a colorless oily liquid with no odor, density 1.835 at 16 °C — which is why a full drum feels the way it does; the liquid is nearly twice the weight of water. It is miscible with water in all proportions, and that mixing releases significant heat. Vapor pressure is low, 1 mmHg at 294.8 °F, so the hazard at room temperature is contact, not vapor — but heating the acid drives off toxic fumes. It is corrosive to metals and tissue and will char wood and most organic matter on contact, though it is unlikely to start a fire. These properties are exactly what make it work as a drain opener: it dehydrates and breaks down organic material rather than merely dissolving it.

Drain cleaning. The core use. Concentrated sulfuric acid dehydrates and disintegrates organic blockages — grease, hair, paper, food waste — restoring flow in drains that mechanical snaking cannot clear. Plumbing contractors and facility maintenance crews are the main buyers at the quart and gallon scale.

pH control in water treatment. Wastewater operators dose sulfuric acid to lower pH in treatment processes. Plants running continuous pH adjustment typically buy at the drum or tote scale and meter from bulk.

Handling & Storage
The signal word is Danger (per the product's GHS classification). The governed hazard statements are: H290 May be corrosive to metals; H314 Causes severe skin burns and eye damage; H350 May cause cancer (per the product's GHS classification). Take all three at face value. This acid destroys tissue on contact — splash-rated goggles or a face shield, acid-resistant gloves, and an apron are the minimum PPE, and our warehouse crew wears the same when packing it.
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible materials, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep it in its original container or in compatible materials such as HDPE or glass; it attacks many metals. Never add water to the concentrated acid — the heat release can spatter acid violently. When diluting, add acid slowly to water. Keep it segregated from bases, oxidizers, and organics, and know your neutralization procedure before you open the container, not after a spill.
