30% Propylene Glycol Technical Grade is a clear, colorless, pre-diluted glycol solution ready to use straight from the container. At 30 parts propylene glycol to 70 parts water, it delivers mild freeze-point depression and moderate humectancy without the viscosity penalty of higher concentrations. Technical Grade means this product is manufactured for industrial process use — HVAC loops, coatings formulation, and general-purpose solvent duty — where pharmaceutical or food-grade purity documentation is not required.
If your application does require USP-grade traceability, we stock the same concentration in a 30% Propylene Glycol USP Grade.
Why This Concentration
A 30% blend sits at the low end of the glycol concentration range, and that is exactly the point. It gives you just enough glycol activity — light freeze protection, basic corrosion inhibition in closed loops, effective moisture retention in coatings — while keeping material cost, viscosity, and disposal burden low. For a building engineer charging an HVAC hydronic loop that only needs protection to roughly the low 20s °F, 30% avoids the over-engineering (and the higher pump energy) of a 50% fill.
The trade-off is straightforward: lower glycol content means less freeze protection and less thermal-transfer fluid body. If your system sees colder ambient temperatures or you need a thicker carrier, step up to 40% Propylene Glycol Technical Grade or 50% Propylene Glycol Technical Grade. If you need less, you are essentially running water with a glycol additive — and at that point, mixing from a higher concentrate may be more economical.
Chemical Profile
This product is a clear, colorless liquid with an odorless-to-mild character, supplied in liquid form. Its density is approximately 1.025 g/cm³ — only slightly heavier than water, which is expected at this dilution. It is fully miscible with water in all proportions. The base solute is propylene glycol (molecular formula C₃H₈O₂, molecular weight 76.09, CAS 57-55-6), a symmetrical diol that accounts for its hygroscopic behavior and its compatibility with aqueous systems.

HVAC and closed-loop antifreeze. Charged directly into hydronic heating and cooling loops as a non-toxic heat-transfer fluid. The 30% blend provides baseline freeze protection for mild-climate installations and seasonal systems that are drained and recharged annually. Compatible with standard HDPE and stainless-steel piping.

Coatings and paint formulation. Functions as a co-solvent and coalescent aid in water-based paint systems. The glycol slows evaporation at the film surface, improving flow-out and leveling during application — particularly useful in high-humidity spray environments where flash-off is already retarded.

Industrial humectant. Retains moisture in process streams, textile treatments, and paper coatings where controlled water activity matters. The 30% level provides moderate humectancy without making the substrate tacky or introducing excessive drying time.

Handling & Storage
This product is not classified as hazardous under GHS based on available data, so no GHS signal word or hazard pictogram applies (per the product's GHS classification). That said, standard industrial hygiene practices still apply.
Wear chemical-splash goggles and nitrile or PVC gloves when handling in bulk. In enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces, ensure mechanical ventilation to minimize inhalation of any mist or vapor. Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents — while propylene glycol is stable under normal conditions, oxidizers can initiate decomposition.
Store in tightly sealed containers made of HDPE, polypropylene, or stainless steel, in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight. The aqueous blend is microbiologically susceptible over long storage; keep containers closed when not in use and inspect for turbidity or off-odor before charging into a system. No special temperature controls are required for storage under normal warehouse conditions.
