About Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)

Alliance Chemical stocks isopropyl alcohol (IPA, CAS 67-63-0) in Technical, USP, and ACS Reagent grades at 50%, 60%, 70%, 91%, 99%, and 99.9% concentrations, packaged from single quarts to 55-gallon drums and 275- and 330-gallon IBC totes. A 55-gallon drum starts at $925 and a 275-gallon tote at $4,200, every order ships from our warehouse in Taylor, Texas with no hazmat fee and no minimum order, and most in-stock orders leave in 1–2 business days.

Choose a concentration and grade

The grade on each product page is the grade in the certificate — Technical, USP, or ACS Reagent, stated per SKU, never inferred. Higher concentration is not automatically better: 99% dries fastest and carries the least water, which is what electronics and extraction work want, while 70% stays wet on a surface longer, which is why surface-cleaning protocols specify it. If you need a different strength, the dilution calculator gives exact water-to-IPA ratios.

Product What picks it
99.9% — ACS Reagent Grade Analytical labs, semiconductor and wafer work, residue-critical rinses where certified purity matters
99% — Technical Grade Electronics and flux removal, degreasing, inks and coatings, extraction — the lowest water content and fastest dry
91% — USP Grade Faster-drying wipe-downs and general facility cleaning where some water is acceptable
70% — USP Grade The standard surface wipe-down concentration — the water content slows evaporation so the surface stays wet longer
60% — USP Grade Pre-diluted for programs that specify 60% with USP purity
60% — Technical Grade Pre-diluted 60% for general industrial cleaning
50% — USP Grade Pre-diluted for gentler cleaning where 50% is specified, USP purity
50% — Technical Grade Pre-diluted 50% for general-purpose industrial use

Drum, tote, and pail pricing

These are the live single-container prices as of 2026-08-17 — the same prices in the cart, with per-gallon economics shown at the volume breaks. A 55-gallon drum of 99% technical-grade isopropyl alcohol is $925, which works out to $16.82/gal — about a third of the single-gallon rate. Quarts, 15-gallon drums, 330-gallon totes, case packs, and pallet quantities are priced on each product page, and standing-order or tanker-adjacent volume is quoted directly on the bulk supplier page or at 512-365-6838.

How isopropyl alcohol ships

Concentrated isopropyl alcohol is a DOT-regulated flammable liquid: UN1219, Isopropanol, Hazard Class 3. Quarts and gallons ship by ground parcel under the limited-quantity provisions — flammable liquids do not ship by air. Pails, drums, and totes move as LTL freight from Taylor, Texas on our regular carriers. Alliance Chemical does not add a hazmat fee at any package size — the price on the page is the price. Most in-stock orders ship within 1–2 business days.

COA and SDS

A lot-specific Certificate of Analysis — for the lot you receive, not a generic sample — is available for every product in this collection through the COA request page. Safety Data Sheets for every grade are in the SDS library; review the SDS before handling.

Common applications

  • Electronics cleaning: High-purity IPA removes flux, oils, fingerprints, and light residues from circuit boards, connectors, and precision components.
  • Surface wipe-down: 70% and 91% IPA are the common choices for hard-surface cleaning, tool wipe-down, and general facility maintenance when compatible with the surface.
  • Semiconductor and lab use: ACS and high-purity IPA support wafer cleaning, drying, analytical prep, and solvent rinse workflows where residue control matters.
  • Solvent blending: IPA blends readily with water and many organic solvents, making it useful in cleaners, inks, coatings, and extraction-adjacent processes.

Safety & Handling

Isopropyl alcohol is a flammable liquid. Store away from heat, sparks, oxidizers, and open flame, and use only with adequate ventilation. Ground and bond containers during larger transfers where static discharge is possible. Review the Safety Data Sheets before use and follow your site-specific handling procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What IPA concentration should I choose?
Use 70% IPA where slower evaporation and longer surface dwell are wanted, 91% for faster drying, and 99% or 99.9% when low water content is important for electronics, lab, or process use.
What is the difference between USP, ACS, and Technical Grade IPA?
USP grade is produced for applications that require USP specifications, ACS grade is intended for reagent and analytical use, and Technical Grade is used for industrial cleaning, degreasing, and solvent work.
Can IPA be used for electronics cleaning?
Yes. High-purity IPA is commonly used for PCB, connector, and component cleaning when the device is powered down and the surface is compatible with alcohol.
Does IPA ship as a hazmat product?
Most IPA products are regulated as flammable liquids. Packaging and carrier options depend on concentration, package size, and destination.
Do IPA orders include SDS and COA support?
SDS is available for each IPA product, and lot-specific COA support is available for orders where documentation is required.
