Why This Grade
Technical grade is the industrial tier of nitric acid: a 65% solution supplied for work where oxidizing strength and consistent concentration matter, but certified limits on trace impurities such as heavy metals, sulfates, and chlorides are not written into the process. Pickling and descaling steel, passivating stainless components, brightening brass and copper, dissolving metals and ores in industrial recovery and refining, and serving as an intermediate in fertilizer and chemical manufacturing all run on this grade, and it is the cost-effective choice for them. The 65% concentration is a stable, easily handled strength for tank work and dilution. Lower concentrations may lack the oxidizing power some finishing steps need, while higher concentrations (such as fuming nitric acid) present severe safety risks and spontaneous decomposition challenges. Our 65% Technical Grade is not supplied as ACS, reagent, or laboratory grade. If your protocol names one of those tiers, or your downstream analysis depends on certified trace-impurity limits, specify that grade when you order. This acid is highly incompatible with organic compounds, flammable solvents, reducing agents, and active metals, as contact can prompt rapid, exothermic reactions. Storage containers must be made of compatible materials, such as glass, fluorinated polymers (PTFE), or specialized stainless steel alloys. Keep containers tightly sealed to prevent the accumulation of hazardous vapors, and store them within a secondary containment system to safely manage any potential leaks.
