Why This Concentration
The 99% concentration matters because water is the enemy of many solvent tasks. In parts cleaning, residual water leaves spots and slows drying. In extraction work, water can pull unwanted polar compounds into the solvent phase. A 99% IPA minimizes those problems without the cost of a higher-purity analytical grade.
Compare that to the familiar 70% rubbing-alcohol blend: a 70/30 IPA-water mix is designed for disinfection contact time, not solvent strength. At 99%, nearly all of the liquid is active solvent, and the flash point sits at 53 °F — well below ambient — so the material evaporates quickly and cleanly from surfaces. That fast evaporation is an advantage on a production floor, but it also means vapor management and ignition-source control are part of the job.

Isopropyl Alcohol 99% Technical Grade is a colorless liquid with a sharp, characteristic alcohol odor. Its molecular formula is C3H8O (molecular weight 60.10), and it is fully miscible with water — solubility is reported at 100 mg/mL or greater at 72 °F. The liquid is lighter than water at a density of approximately 0.785 at 68 °F (roughly 6.5 lb per gallon). Vapor pressure is notable: 33 mmHg at 68 °F, climbing to 40 mmHg at 74.8 °F, which accounts for its rapid evaporation rate at room temperature. Vapors are heavier than air and will collect in low-lying areas if ventilation is inadequate. The flash point is 53 °F, classifying it as a highly flammable liquid (per the product's GHS classification).

Handling & Storage

Operators should wear chemical-splash goggles and nitrile or butyl-rubber gloves when handling. In poorly ventilated spaces, use a NIOSH-approved organic-vapor respirator. Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat, sparks, and direct sunlight. Keep containers tightly closed when not in use. HDPE or glass containers are appropriate; verify compatibility with any elastomers or plastics the IPA will contact, as prolonged exposure can soften certain polymers. Keep away from strong oxidizers and concentrated acids to prevent hazardous reactions. Ground and bond containers during transfer to prevent static discharge — with a flash point of 53 °F, ignition risk during pouring is real.
