Questions about SDS and TDS writing

How much does it cost to have an SDS written?

Here it is $350 for a single chemical under your name, $495 for a mixture of up to 5 ingredients and $695 for 6 to 10 ingredients, with the DOT transport section and two rounds of edits included. Most SDS writing services quote on request; the published prices we found run from about $150 to $545 per sheet, and consultants often quote $500 to $1,000 for a mixture.

Can my supplier write the SDS for my product?

Your suppliers give you SDSs for the ingredients they sell you, not for the product you make from them. Under OSHA, the maker or importer of the finished product is responsible for its SDS. You can write it yourself, use authoring software, or have a writer prepare it; either way your company stays the responsible party.

Who is responsible for the SDS?

Under OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), the maker or importer of a product is responsible for its classification and its SDS. We prepare the sheet from your formula and cited data, you review and approve it, and your company is named as the supplier.

What do you need from us?

The full formula with the CAS number and percent by weight of each ingredient, the supplier SDS for each ingredient, what the product is used for, and any test data you have, such as flash point or pH.

Is my formula kept private?

Your formula is used only to write your documents. The SDS itself must list the hazardous ingredients and their concentrations in Section 3, as OSHA requires; a trade-secret claim under 29 CFR 1910.1200(i) can withhold a specific identity or exact percentage, and we write the required range instead. We quote the raw materials in your formula only if you ask us to.

How long does it take?

We aim to send the first draft within 5 business days after we have the full formula and the supplier SDSs. Large orders get a schedule with the price.

When do mixture SDSs have to meet HazCom 2024?

Manufacturers, importers and distributors must update SDSs for mixtures by November 19, 2027, under OSHA's January 2026 extension (91 FR 1695).

Which languages do you write in?

English, Spanish, French and Japanese, and other languages on request. OSHA requires the English sheet; translated copies can sit alongside it for your workers. Selling in Canada (WHMIS), Mexico (NOM-018), the EU, Japan or China needs that country's own SDS format, so those are quoted separately.

Do you write technical data sheets too?

Yes. A TDS lists your product's specifications, properties, packaging and handling. Performance claims on it come from your own specifications or test data.

Can you supply the ingredients as well?

Yes. Tick the box on the form and we quote the raw materials in your formula, in any size from a quart to a tote.

What if my product has more than 10 ingredients?

Send the request form and we quote it with the price for your other products. Many products in one order are priced together.

What is the difference between an SDS and a TDS?

An SDS (safety data sheet) covers hazards and safe handling in the 16 sections OSHA requires for any hazardous chemical. A TDS (technical data sheet) covers specifications, properties and use, and has no required format. Buyers often ask for both.

Can I order and pay online?

When the Add to cart buttons show next to the prices, yes: pay online and we email you a short project form right away. If your product turns out to need more than the price covers, we tell you before starting and refund in full if you prefer. Otherwise send the request form and we reply with the price.
