The 60/40 blend has a density of 1.08 g/mL at 20 °C, noticeably heavier than water; a full 55 gallon drum reflects that extra mass, and rigging should account for it. Ethylene glycol is highly water-miscible, with solubility of 100 mg/mL or greater at 63.5 °F, which is why it blends into cooling water in any proportion. Vapor pressure is low — 0.06 mmHg at 68 °F, rising to 1 mmHg at 127.4 °F — so it evaporates slowly and stays where you put it. Industrial Applications

Antifreeze. In automotive and equipment cooling systems, ethylene glycol lowers the freezing point of the coolant so blocks, radiators, and lines survive winter shutdowns and cold starts.

Heat transfer fluid. In closed industrial loops — chillers, jacketed reactors, HVAC circuits — the glycol/water blend carries heat between the process and the exchanger while resisting freezing at the cold end of the loop.

Handling & Storage
This product carries the signal word Warning, with hazard statements H302, harmful if swallowed, and H373, may cause damage to organs (kidneys) through prolonged or repeated exposure (per the product's GHS classification). Ingestion is the hazard that matters most in practice: never transfer glycol into unmarked drink-style containers, and keep transfer stations away from break areas. Wear gloves and goggles when handling, and ventilate enclosed transfer areas.
Store in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight, in compatible containers such as HDPE or stainless steel, and away from strong oxidizing agents. The liquid is stable in normal warehouse storage. Treat spills as an environmental event, not just a slip hazard: ethylene glycol penetrates soil readily and can reach groundwater and nearby streams, so contain and recover a release immediately rather than washing it to a drain.
