n-Propyl Alcohol ACS Grade
n-Propyl Alcohol ACS Grade, also known as 1-Propanol, is a colorless, flammable liquid with a characteristic odor. It demonstrates excellent solvency properties and broad compatibility with both water and a wide range of organic solvents, making it a versatile reagent for analytical, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications. This ACS-grade material meets stringent purity specifications suitable for analytical laboratories and production environments, including minimal water content, low trace metal levels, and controlled aldehyde and acidity profiles to minimize interference in sensitive assays and synthesis steps. The product is supplied with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) confirming assay accuracy (99–100 wt%), APHA color (typical 2, max 5), and a comprehensive trace impurity profile in line with ACS and USP-NF expectations.
It is commonly employed as a solvent for HPLC mobile phases, extraction processes, cleaning and degreasing, and as an intermediate in chemical synthesis. Given its relatively low acidity and controlled impurity levels, n-Propyl Alcohol supports reproducible results in high-purity environments, while maintaining manageable storage and handling requirements under standard laboratory practices. The material’s favorable physical properties, such as a boiling range near 97–99°C and miscibility with water, enable precise solvent management in process streams and analytical workflows.
Handle and store under conditions that minimize exposure to vapors; use in a well-ventilated area or fume hood. Store in compatible containers (HDPE or glass) in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from heat, flames, and ignition sources. Keep containers tightly closed when not in use and use appropriate PPE, including chemical-resistant gloves and splash goggles, along with lab coats or protective garments. Ground and bond containers during transfer to prevent static discharge, and follow local regulations for flammable liquids.
In case of spills, evacuate nonessential personnel and ventilate the area. Absorb with inert material (e.g., sand or vermiculite) and collect for disposal according to applicable hazardous waste procedures. Should contact with skin or eyes occur, flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention if irritation persists. If inhaled, move to fresh air and seek medical care if symptoms develop. Do not induce vomiting if ingested; transport to an appropriate medical facility for evaluation. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full handling, storage, and emergency procedures.
