In commercial printing, residual ink, dried adhesives, and built-up resins slow production and compromise print quality. Technical grade acetone at 99.9% purity delivers the fast-evaporating solvent power that printing operations depend on to keep presses running clean and output consistent.

Alliance Chemical supplies technical grade acetone in volumes matched to your print shop's throughput — from quart bottles for maintenance stations to 275-gallon totes for high-volume flexographic and gravure operations.

Why Printing Operations Choose Alliance Chemical Acetone

99.9% Purity

Higher purity means fewer residues left behind on press components, reducing the risk of contamination between print runs

Fast Evaporation Rate

Acetone's low boiling point (56°C / 133°F) allows rapid cleaning with minimal downtime between color changes or substrate switches

Flexible Sizing

Order the volume that fits your operation — quart, gallon, 5-gallon pail, 55-gallon drum, or 275-gallon tote

Full Documentation

Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) provided with every order, supporting your facility's compliance records

Consistent Supply

Reliable inventory and fast shipping keep your production schedule on track

Common Printing Applications

Press Cleaning and Ink Removal

Dissolves dried and wet inks from rollers, blankets, ink fountains, and press beds during color changeovers and end-of-run washups

Screen Reclamation

Breaks down emulsion and ink residues on screen printing mesh, preparing screens for recoating and reuse

Plate and Cylinder Preparation

Removes contaminants from gravure cylinders and lithographic plates to ensure clean image transfer

Substrate Degreasing

Prepares plastic films, metal sheets, and specialty substrates by removing oils and surface contaminants prior to printing

Adhesive and Coating Thinning

Used as a solvent to adjust viscosity of certain adhesives, coatings, and lacquers applied during finishing

Equipment Maintenance

Cleans ink delivery systems, spray nozzles, and precision components where residue buildup affects performance

Handling and Storage in Printing Facilities

Acetone is a highly flammable solvent with a low flash point. Printing facilities handling acetone should follow these protocols:

  • Review the SDS before introducing acetone into any workflow — ensure all operators are trained on its properties and hazards
  • Ventilation: Use in well-ventilated areas or with local exhaust ventilation to manage vapor accumulation. Acetone vapors are heavier than air and can collect in low-lying areas
  • PPE Requirements: Wear chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile recommended), splash-proof safety goggles, and appropriate respiratory protection when vapor exposure limits may be exceeded
  • Fire Prevention: Keep away from open flames, sparks, and hot surfaces. Store away from heat sources and incompatible materials (strong oxidizers, acids). Ground and bond containers during transfer to prevent static discharge
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in original, tightly sealed containers. Follow OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106 and NFPA 30 requirements for flammable liquid storage
  • Spill Response: Contain spills immediately. Eliminate ignition sources. Absorb with inert material and dispose of according to local, state, and federal regulations
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure handling practices comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations for flammable solvents in printing environments
