Phosphoric acid at 75% concentration is a corrosive mineral acid. Proper handling in field, plant, and refinery settings is critical for personnel safety and equipment integrity.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Chemical-resistant gloves (butyl rubber or neoprene recommended)
- Safety goggles or face shield
- Acid-resistant apron or coveralls
- Chemical-resistant boots in areas of potential splash
Storage Requirements:
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight
- Use containers rated for corrosive acids; avoid carbon steel — HDPE, FRP, or 316 stainless steel are appropriate materials
- Keep containers tightly sealed when not in use to prevent moisture absorption and concentration changes
- Segregate from strong bases, oxidizers, and reactive metals
- Maintain secondary containment per EPA and local spill prevention requirements
Regulatory Compliance:
- Review the SDS before first use and after any lot change
- Train personnel per OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200)
- Dispose of waste acid in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Consult your facility's Process Safety Management (PSM) program if applicable
