Phosphoric acid is one of the most widely used mineral acids in modern agriculture. As a concentrated source of phosphorus — a macronutrient essential to plant development — H3PO4 plays a direct role in soil management, crop nutrition programs, and irrigation system maintenance.

Alliance Chemical supplies Phosphoric Acid 75% USP Grade in a 4-drum bulk pack, giving agriculture operations the volume needed to maintain consistent field and facility programs without frequent reordering.

Why Agriculture Operations Choose This Product

75% Concentration

A high-strength formulation that reduces dilution ratios and lowers per-application cost compared to weaker solutions

USP Grade Purity

Manufactured to United States Pharmacopeia standards, minimizing heavy metal contaminants and impurities that can accumulate in soil over repeated applications

4-Drum Bulk Pack

Ships as four 55-gallon drums, providing 220 gallons per order — practical for mid-scale farms, cooperatives, and ag service providers

Full Documentation

Every lot ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS), supporting your recordkeeping and regulatory compliance

Common Agriculture Applications

Soil pH Adjustment

Alkaline soils limit nutrient availability to crops. Phosphoric acid is applied to lower soil pH into optimal ranges, improving the uptake of phosphorus, iron, zinc, and manganese. Unlike sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid contributes usable phosphorus to the soil profile while adjusting pH.

Fertigation and Nutrient Delivery

Phosphoric acid is injected into drip and sprinkler irrigation systems to deliver phosphorus directly to the root zone. Its liquid form makes it compatible with most fertigation equipment, and the 75% concentration allows precise dosing at low injection rates.

Irrigation System Maintenance

Mineral scale — primarily calcium carbonate — builds up inside drip emitters, spray nozzles, and supply lines over time, reducing flow uniformity. Periodic flushing with diluted phosphoric acid dissolves these deposits and restores system performance without damaging polyethylene or PVC components.

Hydroponic and Greenhouse Nutrient Solutions

Controlled-environment growers use phosphoric acid to formulate nutrient solutions and to lower pH in recirculating hydroponic systems. Its contribution of plant-available phosphorus makes it a dual-purpose pH adjuster in these settings.

Foliar Phosphorus Supplementation

Dilute phosphoric acid solutions can be applied as foliar sprays during critical growth stages when root uptake alone may not meet crop phosphorus demand — particularly during flowering and fruit set.

Handling and Storage

Phosphoric acid at 75% concentration is corrosive. Agriculture personnel should follow these protocols:

  • Read the SDS thoroughly before first use and ensure it is accessible at every point of application
  • PPE requirements: Chemical-resistant gloves, splash-proof safety goggles, and protective apron at minimum. Use respiratory protection if misting or vapor is generated during mixing
  • Storage: Keep drums in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible materials (strong bases, metals, oxidizers). Store on secondary containment to capture potential spills
  • Container integrity: Keep drums sealed when not in use. Phosphoric acid is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air, potentially diluting the concentration over time
  • Spill response: Neutralize small spills with soda ash or lime. Contain and prevent runoff into waterways. Refer to the SDS for detailed spill procedures
  • Regulatory compliance: Follow all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing chemical storage and application in agricultural settings
