Product Overview

Sulfuric Acid 93% Technical Grade is a potent, strong mineral acid widely utilized in industrial manufacturing and chemical processing. With a concentration range of 93–98% (typically 96.5%), this technical grade solution is engineered for applications requiring high acidity and precise stoichiometry. Also known historically as Oil of Vitriol or Battery Acid, it appears as a clear, colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a high density of approximately 1.84 g/mL.

This formulation serves as a critical dehydrating agent, catalyst, and pH adjuster. It is compatible with standard industrial corrosion-resistant materials such as HDPE and glass. Alliance Chemical ensures rigorous quality control to minimize impurities like iron and heavy metals, making this product reliable for wastewater treatment, metal finishing, and bulk chemical synthesis. Please note: This is a corrosive hazardous material and requires strict adherence to safety protocols during handling and storage.

Key Properties

  • Chemical Formula: H₂SO₄
  • CAS Number: 7664-93-9
  • Grade: Technical
  • Appearance: Clear, colorless to slightly yellow liquid
  • Assay: 93–98% (Typical 96.5%)
  • Specific Gravity: ~1.84 g/mL at 25°C
  • Boiling Point: 337-340°C
  • Odor: Odorless
  • Solubility: Miscible with water (exothermic)

Common Applications

  • pH Control & Neutralization: Used extensively in wastewater treatment to lower pH levels and neutralize alkaline streams.
  • Metal Processing: Essential for pickling baths to remove rust and scale from iron and steel surfaces before plating or coating.
  • Battery Manufacturing: Serves as the primary electrolyte component in lead-acid battery production for automotive and industrial storage systems.
  • Chemical Synthesis: Acts as a dehydrating agent and catalyst in the production of fertilizers, sulfates, and other industrial chemicals.
  • Laboratory Use: Functions as a strong acid standard for titrations and analytical chemistry (Technical Grade).

Safety Precautions

Sulfuric Acid 93% is highly corrosive and causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Always wear full personal protective equipment (PPE), including acid-resistant gloves, chemical splash goggles, face shields, and chemical-resistant clothing. Do not breathe mist or vapors.

Handling: add acid to water slowly; never add water to acid, as this causes a violent exothermic reaction. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in original corrosion-resistant containers (HDPE). Keep away from organic materials, metals, and strong bases. In case of spills, neutralize with soda ash or lime before disposal in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Benefits

High Concentration: 93–98% assay ensures efficiency in demanding industrial reactions.
Versatile Utility: Suitable for a wide range of applications from pH adjustment to metal pickling.
Scalable Supply: Available in pack sizes from 1 quart bottles to 330-gallon totes to suit any project scale.
Quality Assurance: Manufactured to strict technical specifications to ensure consistent performance.
