Product Overview

Propylene Glycol Inhibited ACS Grade is a high-purity synthetic organic solvent and thermal fluid with the chemical formula C₃H₈O₂. Also known as Propane-1,2-diol or MPG, this clear, odorless liquid combines the rigorous purity specifications of ACS reagent grade material with a specialized inhibitor package. It is hygroscopic and fully miscible with water, acetone, and chloroform.

While standard inhibited glycols are often technical grade, this ACS Grade formulation maintains a typical assay weight percentage near 99.8% with a low impurity profile. The added inhibitors stabilize the fluid against oxidation and prevent corrosion in metallic piping systems, making it ideal for sensitive heat transfer applications, analytical workflows, and closed-loop cooling systems where standard industrial grades may introduce unwanted contaminants.

Common Applications

  • Precision Heat Transfer: Used as a thermal fluid in laboratory chillers, pharmaceutical cooling circuits, and sensitive HVAC systems requiring corrosion protection without contaminants.
  • HPLC Mobile Phase: Functions as a component in reversed-phase HPLC to separate organic compounds with high reproducibility.
  • Industrial Processing: Acts as a carrier fluid in hydraulic systems due to low viscosity and favorable thermal properties.
  • Chemical Synthesis: Serves as a high-purity solvent for reactions and equipment cleaning where trace metals must be strictly controlled.

Safety & Handling

Store Propylene Glycol Inhibited in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use containers made of HDPE or glass to prevent contamination. Ensure good ventilation during handling. Recommended PPE includes gloves and safety goggles. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed emergency procedures and specific PPE recommendations. This product is not regulated as a hazardous material for transport.
