Xylene solvent is a clear, colorless liquid aromatic hydrocarbon. It is widely used as a solvent in place of Toluene to thin oil-based paint, lacquer, varnish, adhesives and enamel when a slower rate of evaporation is desired. It may also be used as a clean-up solvent for tools and equipment immediately after use.

Xylene, xylol or dimethylbenzene is any one of three isomers of dimethylbenzene, or a combination thereof. With the formula (CH3)2C6H4, each of the three compounds has a central benzene ring with two methyl groups attached at substituents. They are all colorless, flammable liquids, some of which are of great industrial value.

Application: Xylene, xylol or dimethylbenzene is used as raw material for the manufacture of fibers, dyes, films, in laboratories to cool reaction vessels, clearing agent and paints.
